Working closely with international climate action leaders, ClimatePartner, we recently helped one of our long-term clients, the award-winning Irish packer, Belview Eggs, complete a full Corporate Carbon footprint (CCF) for their business.
Utilising the Eggbase Carbon Calculator, we assessed the emissions of multiple flocks supplying Belview, which constitute a large proportion of their Scope 3 reporting. We also completed Scope 1 and 2 calculations of Belview’s packing centre operations and fleet of vehicles.
These interoperable results were incorporated into the remainder of the corporate assessment completed by ClimatePartner, covering aspects such as packaging, employee commuting and waste. The combination of work provided Belview with a comprehensive emissions report, and the ideal baseline from which to plan and execute their environmental impact mitigation strategies.
No-one likes having to do something twice – interoperability removes unnecessary duplication!
‘Interoperability’ of data refers to a piece of information being compatible with another system. To be compatible, data must be formatted in such a way as to be clearly understood, mapped to match the needs of the integration. In the case of carbon footprinting, a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) will report the entire environmental impact of a product, or the emissions of a whole business respectively. They’re big beasts and each is a complex undertaking.
At Eggbase, we don’t provide a full LCA or CCF service ourselves, but the data from our Eggbase Carbon Calculator is interoperable, and we work with partners to complete the wider picture. Our product carbon footprints (PCF) use an independently verified methodology, producing results that can slot into the extensive calculations performed by other providers.
